My work is a collection of dreams. It goes beyond being an artist; it’s about creating a space for everyone who was told they feel too much, ask too much, or too much. It’s about leaving a neocolonial and patriarchal framework behind, and embracing the rollercoasters and beauty of life.
I’m a published writer and multidisciplinary artist born in London and living in Brussels. Since 2019, I have been working as a freelance ghostwriter and copywriter for a wide range of clients. I contributed to Micro Tattoos (Lannoo), a best-selling book in its genre. In my commissioned work, I help translate artists' emotions into words. One of the films I scripted, ‘Where Do I Belong’, was selected for the Anima Syros International Animation Festival. I love to translate all that we can feel, but cannot see.
In today’s society, neocolonialism is deeply rooted in our understanding of the arts. White ways are often perceived as better. We have whitewashing, but blackmailing. It dictates how things should be, rather than allowing us to accept them as they are. What we need is not only a redistribution of power, but a redefining of value.
What do we value? Who do we value? Often, people from the global majority, queer people and mothers are valued less. I identify as all 3 of them. Too often, people are only valued if they participate in capitalism. However, we are human bodies, not products. At the heart of everything I do lies a quest for freedom, freeing myself and others from modern versions of slavery.
The possibility of making the impossible possible is what drives me forward in life. I have always been a dreamer. And transforming my dreams into real creations is my favourite part of the human experience.
