The elephant theory
Canapé, 2026
There is a theory about elephants and freedom. In the circus, baby elephants get tied up at their legs to make sure they can’t leave. As the elephants grow older, they don’t need the robes anymore. They remember being tied down, this is enough for them to stay. Even if they easily could, they don’t leave. In this performance Coco Candido and Billie Buhck explore personal patterns of staying in situations where they can leave, even though they don’t think they can. Exploring ties and knowing there is always the option to break free.
Sadness of the unspoken words
Tic Tac art center, 2026
In this performance Coco Candido takes on on a journey of stories that are loning to be told. Stories about epistemic injustice. Meaning: not being believed when you speak up about injustice. A story followed by a silence. One of the key aspects of trauma is that people have no words to explain what has happened to them. It's only felt in the body, without having words to get it out. This performance is about the sadness of unspoken words: the stories we wish we had told, the “I love yous” we didn’t dare to say, and the stories longing to be told but lacking the words.
Home Work
Durational Performance, 2026
In Home Work, Coco Candido stages invisible labour such as cooking, doing laundry or cleaning. Through her performence, she stages all that normally remains invisible to the public eye. Invisible and not valued. How do we value a mother cooking? How do we value a queer person resting? How do we value a person of the global majority regulating another person’s emotion? Often people only become visible to the public eye once they need something from. Worldwide women make of of half of the population doing 60% of the work, 80% of the parenting and only earning 10% of the pay. Coco brings the invisible to the stage, in order to make it visible. Visible and valued.
Moving Meditation
Durational Peformance, 2021 - 2024
A performative workshop inviting participants to reconnect with their bodies, with themselves. We celebrate being alive, being in a body—our body—feeling emotions and moving together with them. Music and self written texts accompany the workshop. This workshop is based on dance, but is designed for non-professional dancers and all types of bodies. As a dancer and dance teacher, I founded this workshop in 2021. Previous clients include Gay Haze, Horst Arts & Music Festival, 51N4E, and Queers on the Move.
