Organised Chaos

Open Studio at R.A.R.O Barcelona, 2026

An installation of things that would not belong together, but Coco Candido chose to place them next to each other. It’s a reference to her family history of migration, and  search for belonging. The installation is set up in a way that it can be recreated in a different location, with materials found elsewhere. Reminding us that we will find people we love, everywhere we go. The objects are found, in the studio, or on the streets of Barcelona. It's all about noticing. Without needing the objects to be anything else then it’s not. The pieces here just are, she didn’t modify their essence. Just as she believes people should never modify their essence in order to fit in.

I just have lot’s of feelings

Solo-expo at Les Grands Carmes Brussels, 2026

This expo shows a collection of pictures, words and installations. Coco Candido listens to the objects that lie around her. Working with everything in her surrounding, a piece of paper, a menstrual pad, a broken glass and so on. The artist use waste as input for her art, it’s not only sustainable but also meaningful to me. To give another life to something that was perceived as dead. In her work, she aims to reverse the way we look at creations. Showing all that is there is the present moment. Without it needing to be something else that it’s not. She show objects for what they are, not for how a public might like them.

We who belong

Solo-expo at Au Jus Brussels, 2025

In the fall of 2025 the Brussels queer organisation Qommunity opened a queer reading and meeting room. Showcasing a selection of books written by queer authors from the global majority. Coco Candido hosted the opening night and created collage art on the walls. What books can do is not only redefine power, but also redefine value. How do we value bodies that form the global majority? How do we value bodies that don’t behave the way society expects them to? Too often, people are only valued if they participate in capitalism. And that’s where books come in, showing us that we are alive and that the power lies in us being connected to both ourselves and others. For centuries, women wrote in secret or adopted men’s names in order to get their stories heard. Coco believes books are a collection of dreams which help us to remind the dreams which lie within ourselves. Writing is a way for the global majority to reclaim space. Reading is too.
